Farmer has record yields
A southwest Ohio farmer says his yields are better-than-average despite the challenging growing season.
First generation farmer Nathan Brown raises corn, soybeans, wheat and cattle.
“I’m going to say that our corn is probably going to be 10-15 percent above average,” he says. “We looked at a test plot recently that was 60-70 bushels better than anything we’ve ever raised.”
He tells Brownfield, with the use of fungicide, he had a 7 bushel-per-acre improvement in soybean yields this year.
“Overall we had really good crops and really good health because of added fungicide and added expenses, but our return on investment was there,” he says.
He says he plans to plant into a green cover crop next year with the hope of improving yields.
Brown spoke to Brownfield at the Ohio Farm Bureau Convention in Columbus.
