APPLETON - Authorities released additional details Monday regarding a Saturday night incident in which a man dragged a police officer from his car in the Washington Street parking ramp.

Appleton police said the officer, a 10-year department veteran who was not identified, heard a car going up the second and third floors of the ramp at about 30 miles per hour.

The officer stood in the lane on the fourth floor of the ramp as the driver, Jason T. Lee of Menasha, headed up to the fifth floor, circled the ramp, and then drove down back toward the officer.

"The officer was able to get (Lee) to briefly stop the vehicle; however, the driver would not comply with the officer's order to shut off the vehicle," the department reported in a news release on Monday. "The officer reached through the open driver's side window and grabbed (Lee's) jacket, while ordering him to shut off the vehicle. (Lee) yelled vulgarities at the officer and started to drive away."

The officer said he was dragged about 75 feet before being able to get away.

By then, Lee had parked his car, and tried to leave the parking ramp on foot down a stairwell. He was confronted by officers in the stairwell, did not obey officers' commands, and was Tasered.

He continued to resist officers after the Taser was used, the department reported.

Lee suffered an injury and was taken to the hospital. He was treated and released into police custody. The officer was also taken to a hospital, treated and released, but he was unable to work his shift on Sunday due to the injuries. The officer is next scheduled to work on Wednesday.

Lee was booked into the Outagamie County Jail on charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, fifth offense drunk driving, resisting or obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, battery to law officers and fleeing or eluding an officer.
