Milwaukee dodges snow this afternoon, wind chills close to zero expected Tuesday morning

A band of snow expected to move east along the I-94 corridor this afternoon has veered south — which means the Milwaukee area will avoid most of the snowflakes.

A winter weather advisory issued for nine counties in southeastern Wisconsin has been trimmed to three — Racine, Kenosha and Walworth. The advisory will be in effect until 6 p.m. Those counties could get up to 3 inches of snow.

"The band of snow is going just a little further south than originally thought," National Weather Service meteorologist Ben Miller, who is based in Sullivan, said at 3 p.m.

If the Milwaukee area gets any snow, it's likely to be only flurries.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to drop later tonight and, combined with sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph, wind chills could dip to zero by Tuesday morning.

As a cold front associated with the Alberta clipper system moves into the area, Monday night's low temperatures in southeastern Wisconsin will likely plunge into the teens.

A trace of snowfall was recorded Monday morning at the airport.

The next possibility for snow this week will be Wednesday night, though at this point, the forecast is calling for accumulations of less than half an inch. There's also a possibility of snow this weekend.
