New rankings: If you've got money, Pa. is a great place to live

Pennsylvania ranks ninth considering income, taxes and quality of life

Sixth out of 50 isn't bad, especially considering No. 1 is Alaska, where the state pays you to live there.

But, that's where Pennsylvania ranks among the 50 states for places to live if you've got a solid income, some money in the bank and are looking to put down some roots.

Financial outlets like Forbes, Business Insider and MoneyRates.com all have their ideas of the best places to live. Those financial gurus recently took a look at states based on categories including income, taxes and quality of life.

When the top 10 states in those lists are given weighted values based on those qualifications, Alaska comes out on top, edging New Hampshire by one point.

Alaska, where the sun doesn't shine in the winter and doesn't set in the summer, pays people between hundreds and thousands of dollars annually to permanently reside there.

But, out of a total possible grade of 30, Alaska tallies 17 points based on income, taxes and property crime. The 49th state has no income tax. The top 10 percent earns $100,000 or more a year.

Pennsylvania ranks sixth overall in a tie with Florida.

In MoneyRates.com's Best States to be Rich, the Keystone state ranks second with the country's 10th lowest tax rate and one of the 10 lowest property crime rates.

Based on the possible highest grade of 30 points, here are the top 10 states for people with money.

1. Alaska ---- 17 points

2. New Hampshire ---- 16 points

3, Wyoming ---- 15 points

4. Virginia ---- 14 points

5. Massachusetts ---- 10 points

6. Pennsylvania, Florida ---- 9 points

8.  Nevada ---- 7 points

9. North Dakota,  South Dakota  ---- 6 points
