Starwood Preferred Guest is generally a great program in terms of award availability. I’ve really never had trouble finding award space at a SPG hotel as long as I book well in advance. Except for that one time I stalked the Pitrizza Luxury Collection hotel on Sardinia hotel 10 months out until availability opened up.

But just in case you can’t find availability, I’ll show a little trick I’ve used from time to time to find out what dates are available for awards at SPG hotels.

How To Search SPG Award Availability By Day Of Month

Step 1: Sign In to your SPG account

Step 2: Perform hotel search for your desired dates

Step 3: View award availability

Award availability doesn’t appear to be available during my desired dates. Instead of giving up on the trip, I simply look at the calendar to see if there is availability +/- 1 day from my dates.

Step 4: Select the “Browse Dates / Rates” and “SPG Free Nights” search option

Sure enough, after clicking two buttons, I’m able to find availability only a day off my original dates.

By taking these simple steps, you can find out what availability exists around your desired dates.

Bottom Line

SPG is a great program to earn points with because the availability is generally great. Earning SPG points for hotel night awards is just one reason I keep the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express in my wallet.

For those times when you can’t find the SPG award availability for your entire trip, try a search using the steps above to find out exactly what dates are available.
