Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week (or, you know, an enjoyable Thursday). I can’t believe that it’s December already and Christmas is just a few weeks away. Where does the time go?

I’m sure I’m really going to be asking that question in a few months. Brianna and Andrew have moved up their wedding date. Ack! I’m not going to say what the new date is yet since it’s already changed a few times. We’ll see if this one sticks. If so, I’m going to have a busy winter!

Megan survived Black Friday at her new job. So far, she really enjoys it. The place and the people seem like a good fit for her. I’m hoping it’s going to be a really positive first job experience.

This week was the first time that all three kids have missed dinner at my mom’s because they were all working. {sniff} They grow up too fast, y’all.

We’ve got a couple more weeks of school before we start our Christmas break since we waited until later this summer to start. Honestly, the breaks aren’t what they used to be – you know, as in desperately needed. Now that the kids are pretty much working on their own, it doesn’t change my day-to-day very much. I think that’s good, but it feels weird.

You know what else feels weird? Seeing moving boxes stacked up in my dining room because Brianna has decided she might as well start packing up things that she won’t need for awhile, like her massive book collection.

Seriously, y’all. I’m going to have a kid getting married and another graduating. My remaining baby will be a junior next year. I’m probably going to be a complete basket case by this spring.

And, as much as I’ve tried to talk Brianna into leaving Belle with me, I don’t think she’s convinced. It’s going to be the dog that puts me over the edge. I feel like Jack Nicholas in As Good As It Gets, “All this over a dog.”

I bought some eggnog at the store yesterday and I’ve been listening to my Christmas playlist. I’m feeling more Christmas-y this year than I have in the last couple of years. Except for the fact that a naked tree has been sitting in my living room for nearly a week.

Brian and Josh got it out of the attic last weekend, but we’ve been trying to wait until Brianna and Megan are home at the same time to decorate since the boys don’t care much about decorating. So far, they’ve only been home at the same time long enough to sleep.

This was my little Christmas masterpiece of the season:

I got the candles in my Fair Trade Friday package last year. I wanted to add some garland and pinecones to spruce it up for Christmas, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. So, I bought a miniature tree that had pinecones and red berries and butchered it with a pair of wire cutters.

I even put the burlap it was wrapped in to good use. I found a round placemat that just fits my lazy Susan and some sparkly clip-on poinsettias to set it all off. I was really pleased with the way it turned out.

Now, I think I’m off to enjoy my weekend. I hope you’ll do the same!

  1. I hear you re growing up quickly! My oldest is graduating next summer, and he has a serious girlfriend. Surely it was just yesterday I was changing his nappy (he won’t thank me for writing that!)
    Have a lovely Christmas xx

    1. Nooooo…there’s no way he can be about to graduate already. I’ve watched your kids grow up through your blog. They can’t be getting that big already. {sigh}

  2. Oh my gosh! Such a great idea with those candle holders! I have those, too! I was saving them for my daughter, as she really wants them, but I am going to get them and use them this Christmas. I love that centerpiece!
