US egg exports are on the rise

According to the American Egg board, compared to last year, egg exports increased nearly 32 percent in volume to 191 million dozen and increased 22 percent in value to $173 million.

American Egg Board President and CEO Anne Alonzo says the association made exports a strategic priority for the first time this year and developed a program to increase market opportunities. Trade missions to Mexico, a visit to the US from Caribbean trade officials, and a focus on South Korea helped make this possible.

She says the rise in exports reflects the progress made by US egg farmers.

Exports of egg products between January and September totaled nearly 33,000 tons, an increase of 87 percent.

The USA Poultry and Egg Export Council says that $400,000 of the USDA’s Market Access and Foreign Market Development program funds will be used on the egg industry.
