When Milwaukee County bus driver Carlos Nunez saw an elderly passenger who needed help, he sprang into action.

Nunez was driving Route 51 recently when he noticed the passenger was having a medical issue, according to the Milwaukee County Transit System.

"I'm having a heart attack," the woman told him.

The bus happened to be across from Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center on Milwaukee's south side.

Nunez ran across the busy street to the emergency room and returned with good news: help was on the way.

Milwaukee Fire Department paramedics arrived, stabilized the woman and took her to the hospital where she spent three days recovering.

The woman later called the transit system to thank Nunez, saying: "He was a blessing to me that day."

Nunez, who has been with the transit system for 20 years, told his bosses he was just doing his job.
