MADISON – With his final football season at Stoughton High School in the books in 2015, Adam Krumholz turned his focus to his work in the classroom.

Krumholz was in class when an adviser approached him and asked for permission to release his transcripts.

Krumholz was surprised.

“I asked which school,” he said, “because I wasn’t a big recruit.”

The adviser’s response: Wisconsin.

Krumholz, who caught 42 passes for 803 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior, was stunned.

“To be honest, I had no clue where I wanted to go at that point,” he said. “I didn’t think I was going to play football at D1. ...

“I was like: ‘Oh my gosh. If this works out, this is going to be sick.’

“I was pumped. So I just kept talking to Wisconsin. They gave me a preferred walk-on offer and I accepted right away.”

Krumholz, 6 foot 1 and 201 pounds, redshirted last season. The freshman has played in four games this season, with his primary role to block on running plays.

Just being part of a team that is 8-0 in the Big Ten and 11-0 overall heading into the regular-season finale at Minnesota (5-6, 2-6) on Saturday has been memorable.

“Getting on the field has been great,” he said. “To help contribute to the team has been special. It is what I’ve been working for since I got here.”

The individual highlight of the season came in the fourth quarter of UW’s 38-14 victory over Iowa.

Krumholz lined up on the right side of the formation and came down inside to block the safety on that side of the field. His block helped tailback Bradrick Shaw score on an 8-yard run to help UW take a 31-14 lead.

“I just did my job and it set up for a good run by Bradrick Shaw. That was cool just be a part of that.

“I was so happy. I said: ‘Hell yea, Brad.’

“Excuse my language, but I was just so happy to help him get those six points.”
