The man was walking through the woods with four other hunters in what is known as a deer drive when two of the other hunters shot their rifles in his direction while attempting to shoot a deer, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 12:25 p.m. near Oriole Lane north of Jay Road.

A sheriff's deputy, Waubeka Rescue and a Port Washington paramedic unit responded to the emergency call. Flight for Life transported the man to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee where he was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the incident which does not appear to be an intentional act, authorities said.
