Disaster areas declared in Michigan and Indiana

The USDA had declared 26 Michigan counties as disaster areas because of losses and damages from multiple disasters during the 2017 crop year. Border counties in Indiana are also eligible for assistance.

Sixteen counties along Lake Michigan that experienced losses and damages caused by frost and freeze conditions from March 14th to May 20th have been designated primary disaster areas.  Sixteen additional counties in Michigan and three in Indiana (Elkhart, La Porte and St. Joseph) are also eligible for assistance through the Farm Service Agency.

Twenty-four counties in northern and mid-Michigan that experienced excessive rain from May 4th to August 4th have also been declared disaster areas.

Farmers in affected counties have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their losses. A full list of counties affected can be found here.
