Ariens to put name on Packers' Titletown District hill

ASHWAUBENON – Ariens Co. of Brillion, known for its snow-throwing and lawn-cutting equipment, will put its name on the snow-tubing hill in the Green Bay Packers Titletown District. 

“The tubing hill will represent winter recreation at its best,” said Dan Ariens, chairman and CEO. “It’s the perfect fit for Ariens Co. and our focus on family.” 

Ariens is on the seven-member executive committee of the Packers board of directors.

Terms of the sponsorship deal were not disclosed.

The Packers said more information on Ariens Hill, including hours and admission prices, will be announced soon.

Ashwaubenon's site plan review committee was scheduled Tuesday to consider a request to add signs to the hill. Staff recommended the committee approve the request.

Titletown District's ice-skating pond and trail will open Nov. 30, but the hill will not open until the weather is right for making and maintaining snow. In summer, the grassy incline will be used for programmed events, a park for lounging and picnicking, and a natural amphitheater.

At its highest point, the tubing-hill structure rises 60 feet. The crest of the hill is 46 feet high and 45 feet wide at the top, flaring to 60 feet wide at ground level. It has a 30-degree slope for 150 feet, then levels off across another 150 feet.

It is designed to please thrill-seeking 13-year-olds, said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy. 

The underside of the hill will include a warming space and snack bar, a tube-rental stand and event space, called Rockwood Terrace, on the second floor, with views to the west end of the park.

Titletown District is a nearly 45-acre development bounded primarily by South Ridge Road, Lombardi Avenue, Brookwood Drive and Marlee Lane. Its anchors include Lodge Kohler hotel, Hinterland Brewery and Bellin Health Sports Medicine and Orthopedics clinic, all of which are open. The Packers and Microsoft announced plans for TitletownTech, a technology and innovation center, expected to open in fall 2018. 

The park and plaza consists of the plaza, adjacent to South Ridge Road; an activity area that includes sections for horseshoes, shuffleboard, bocce, ping pong, bean-bag toss and other activities; playgrounds for three age groups, a 40-yard dash course with timer, the snow-tubing hill, ice-skating pond and trail, and full-sized football field.
