LibertyLink ranked highest soybean trait platform for 2017

A product manager with Bayer says a recent independent market research study revealed its LibertyLink was the highest rated soybean this year among growers surveyed.

About 500 growers in 21 states were surveyed on their seed trait decisions and what they think of existing traits on the market.

David Tanner tells Brownfield the survey revealed that weed control is the main reason farmers select the product.

“Really just phenomenal results across difficult to control weeds, resistant weeds, and the core driver weeds: marestail, water hemp, palmer,” he says. “We had really good control there.”

He says there are also yield benefits to its closest competitor.

“And what we’ve seen in the LibertyLink system is a 2+ bushel advantage,” he says.

Tanner says farmers are also expected to plant more acres of LibertyLink soybeans next year.

“We’re looking at another 25 percent, getting us to 17 million acres in 2018,” he says.

He says 97 percent of farmers in the survey said they were happy with their LibertyLink soybeans.
