SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

Baking and sharing sweet dog treats the other day was a first for me …

SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

I adore easy cooking recipes. The days of imitating Martha Stewart are over! #atleastforme

My biscuits may not look ANYTHING like the ones in the photo – but Harley nor Jaxson can read, so it will forever remain my little secret!

Any recipe with peanut butter will definitely be a hit with them. Adding pumpkin to the mix #punintended will motivate me to try it because pumpkin is so very good for them.

The ingredients required are  –

  • 1 cup pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup oil (*I used Canola – I ran out of Coconut)
  • 2.5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons bacon grease, melted
  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter

DON’T BLOW THE DIET –

It’s been almost two months now since we made the switch to our “alternative to raw” diet and I didn’t want to blow it by adding the whole wheat flour.

I called Kimberly of Keep the Tail Wagging and she suggested I substitute the whole wheat with coconut.

I’d never heard of coconut flour before.

Apparently I’ve been under a rock – it’s plentiful in every grocery store I shop. #whoknew

SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

Since this is Wordless Wednesday – the recipe instructions are here. I omitted the “glaze” – didn’t feel like frying the bacon. #keepingitreal

THIRTY SEVEN BISCUITS LATER –

SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

OMDoodle! There were enough biscuits for the entire neighborhood! I placed a fair amount on a plate, stored a few in the freezer, and put the rest in an old Country Crock container. The Boys and I decided to share a dozen of these sweet dog treats with two adorable Doodle friends who live down the street.

We rang the bell, and waited patiently for someone (in addition to our Doodle friend) to come to the door (you can see her in the doorway)…

SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

Their Doodle Dad came outside and talked to us first. He was impressed with my culinary Doodle skills and seemed excited to share them with his canine crew as well…

SHARING SWEET DOG TREATS

It was fun to share our sweet treats.

ONE MORE THING –

Commercial treats can have such questionable ingredients in them, I am trying to make more of them myself.

Grain-Free Coconut Flour Soft Chews is next on our list. They look A-mazing and I plan to substitute pumpkin for the sweet potato.

Do you make your own dog treats? Got any you’d love to share?

The more we share – the more we have ❤️

This is our contribution in the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

I love pumpkin! Mom has had pumpkin ice cream and I follow her around wanting some! I’m planning on making some pumpkin cookies and might try the coconut flour. I think I already have some from another thing I made a while back. Enjoy!

Geez, I have never heard of coconut flour either! To be honest, I am not much of a baker. I have good intentions, but burn everything. Though maybe I will give these a try and hope for the best!

Wow, I’ve never heard of coconut flour either! Our biggest issue is eggs, our Ginger is allergic to so many things and eggs and dairy are at the top of the list. We just made treats with oats, pumpkin and peanut butter… we love them 🙂

My canine crew are big fans of the coconut flour peanut butter combo. Well done, Doodle Mom.

Oh thanks for sharing your recipe. I’ll suggest Mom make some of your treats and use them as stocking stuffers for auntie’s & grandma’s doggies.

I barely cook for the humans so my dogs get treats from the all-natural pet store up the street 🙂

These sound like delicious treats! I never knew about substituting coconut for whole wheat flour either. That is a cool trick! I bet that the dogs went crazy for these. They probably smelled great in the oven too.

Anything with both peanut butter AND pumpkin would be a hit with my girls! It’s so sweet of you to share your homemade treats with neighbor doodles, you guys are the sweetest.

Anything with peanut butter and Misha is all over it. These seem easy to make, too. Given that photo of the dog waiting behind the door window, I can see that they were eagerly anticipated!

I have never heard of coconut flour even though I buy a lot of alternative stuff due to having food sensitivities. I am surprised that Pillsbury makes it.

Yes, we love to make our own treats! I’ve used coconut flour a little bit, and I’ve also made peanut butter/pumpkin cookies with oats. Are oats allowed on the diet, or do you have to be completely grain free?
I was glad to read you skipped the bacon fat….I was feeling guilty because I’ve always been too lazy to do that for mine! 🙂
