Michigan harvest about average

Heavy rain slowed harvest progress for many Michigan farmers last week.

The USDA says despite rain delays, corn and soybean harvest is running about on pace with the five year average. Corn harvested for grain is now 57 percent in the bin, soybeans are 84 percent harvested.

Many sugarbeet growers are waiting for soil conditions to improve, 65 percent of the crop is now harvested with condition rated 48 percent good to excellent. Dry beans are 94 percent harvested, on pace with last year.  Winter wheat planting is nearly complete with condition rated 74 percent good to excellent.
