U.S. ethanol exports down

The Renewable Fuels Association says U.S. ethanol exports dropped 16 percent to 86 million gallons in September.

Canada was the leading importer of  U.S. ethanol with nearly 29 million gallons and India replaced Brazil as the second-leading export destination with 20 million gallons. This is the first time in more than a year that Brazil wasn’t one of the top two importers of U.S. ethanol. RFA says this is likely the result of the nation’s implementation of a 20 percent tariff on ethanol imports.

Canada, India, and Brazil made up nearly 80 percent of ethanol shipments for September.

The annual export volume for this year is expected to be around 1.3 billion gallons.
