Soybean yields ‘slightly above average’ in north central Iowa

An agronomist with Dupont Pioneer in north central Iowa says soybean yields there have been running slightly above average.  But Nate LeVan says they are down quite a bit from last year.

“The big numbers just weren’t there this year in the beans,” says LeVan. “At this point last year I was hearing 70’s and 80’s, where this year it’s probably more 50’s and 60’s.”

But LeVan says, given the up-and down growing season, many growers are happy with the yields they’re seeing.  He expects the soybean harvest to wrap up this week, with growers turning their full attention to corn by the weekend.
