Bye-Bye Ritz Carlton, Hello Powerscourt Autograph Hotel Ireland

Autograph Collection welcomes its first hotel member in Ireland with Powerscourt Hotel on the historic 13th century Powerscourt Estate, a property which also features Ireland’s highest waterfall.

Powerscourt Ireland

Seeing this hotel photo revealed a familiar looking hotel. Then it came to me. This historic property was the Ritz Carlton Powerscourt Hotel in County Wicklow, Ireland earlier this year. The location remains the same, some 25 km south of Dublin, but the hotel brand has changed from Marriott’s Ritz-Carlton to Autograph Collection.

Turns out the 200-room Powerscourt Hotel property went into liquidation in February 2013 due to €47million debt repayments and was sold and now reopened under a different Marriott brand.

The iconic Powerscourt Hotel is set near the village of Enniskerry, only 25 minutes from Dublin City centre and 35 minutes from Dublin airport, amidst one of the most scenic and historic estates in Ireland. The elegant retreat showcases Palladian-style architecture and offers guests a host of luxurious amenities including a 20-metre Swarovski crystal-lit indoor pool. Additionally, the hotel features two championship level golf courses and a 30,000-square foot luxury spa by ESPA. With an emphasis on local excellence and seasonality, the new Sika Restaurant at Powerscourt Hotel offers the best of Irish contemporary cooking against a spectacular backdrop of Wicklow’s hills and mountains.
