Three things we learned from South-Doyle's 27-7 win over Central

South-Doyle beat Central Thursday night securing a spot in the playoffs. Here are three things we learned from the Cherokees' 27-7 win over Central:

Elijah Young

Young accounted for both of South-Doyle's first half touchdowns. He ran for 106 yards on 16 rushes in the game.

South-Doyle's Elijah Young is grabbed by Central's Daunte Holliday and pushed out of bounds on Thursday, October 19, 2017.

"We have been waiting six weeks to get our people back and to get him back and for him to do what he did tonight is a sign of our experience upfront and his willingness to compete and show his ability was just a phenomenon," said coach Clark Duncan.

Young had help from quarterback Mason Brang, who had a good night along with Nate Adbeyo, who had a touchdown of his own during the fourth quarter, and Ton'quez Ball.

Defense made a big impact

The defense was the real star of the night, as Central only scored seven points. South-Doyle gave up only one touchdown, in the second quarter. Central's passing game was barely seen during the game and the running game came up short multiple times.

South-Doyle defenders, from left, Tyler Johnson, Wesley Holt, and Quantre Miles stop Central's Trey’sean Moore on Thursday, October 19, 2017.

"From the very first play, we were just physical, we played hard-nose football and with the exception of the one drive they had, it was just an unbelievable night, " said coach Clark Duncan.

There were also two fumble recoveries that helped keep Central's yards to a minimum.

Playoff Bound

After the big win tonight, South-Doyle is ready for the playoffs.

"This is the exact position we were in last year, " said coach Duncan, "it was huge for us, we had to win to get in playoffs, if we didn't, we'd have to count on someone else and the last thing we want to do is depending on someone."

South-Doyle plays Powell next Friday and then starts their playoff run.
