Man pleads not guilty to murder, arson in death of Dallastown graduate

A trial date has not been set, according to a courthouse spokeswoman.

A man charged with the murder of Dallastown-native Amanda Strous recently pleaded not guilty in court, according to a spokeswoman for the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, courthouse.

A trial date has not yet been set for Mathew Benner, said Pamela Escobar, community access and outreach administrator for the courthouse.

Benner entered his plea in court on Oct. 12.

He was charged with murder and arson in Strous' death on June 18, 2016. Benner lived in the same apartment complex as Strous in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area.

Strous was a field hockey all-star player and graduated from Dallastown Area High School and Shippensburg University. She and her fiance were planning to marry on July 30, 2016.

A memorial fundraiser for Strous was held last weekend, with a goal to raise $20,000 for the Amanda Strous FlyHigh22 Foundation.
