100% Bonus on Transferred Avianca Lifemiles Through October 15

Last year I explained Why You Want to Get Started With the AviancaTaca LifeMiles Program Right Now.

LifeMiles is one of the best programs in the Star Alliance. There are some frustrations, like inability to book flights in more than one class of service on an award. But they sell miles cheap, their award chart is reasonable, they offer one-way awards, and the website is decent. Plus there are no fuel surcharges.

I consider the better non-U.S. programs a great hedge and refuge against the risks of revenue-based frequent flyer redemption changes.

And the AviancaTaca LifeMiles program regularly offers 100% bonuses on purchased miles and then lets you effectively buy miles at a deep discount again with their cash and points awards (where you need just 40% of the miles required for a given award ticket).

Through October 15 they’re running a 100% bonus on transferred miles.

They charge 1.5 cents a mile ($15 per 1000 miles) to transfer points, and the recipient gets double the miles that have been transferred. So the incremental increase in miles cost 1.5 cents apiece.

To take advantage of this offer, of course, one account already needs to have miles in it.

The current 100% bonus for transferring US Airways miles is, of course, cheaper. Whether or not you are a buyer of Lifemiles may depend on whether you especially value one way awards and whether you believe the American-US Airways merger will ultimately be consummated.

  2. I think another bonus of Lifemiles is that unlike UA points, if you cancel your trip it only costs $50 where UA miles cost $150 to cancel.

    Is there a maximum amount you can transfer?

  3. @Tom you mention this as if LM are the only FF program to have devalued in the past. I dont disagree LM have devalued recently and are now cheap not crazy cheap but virtualy all FF programs (and hotel programs for that matter) do make changes from time to time in redemption rates. Sure its something you should consider but you should consider for all programs, not just LM.
