MADISON - Democratic state Rep. Cory Mason won Tuesday's race for Racine mayor.

Mason bested Ald. Sandy Weidner, 5,356 votes to 4,392 votes, according to the Racine Journal Times. Those are preliminary, unofficial returns.

Wisconsin Assemblyman Cory Mason (D-Racine) says even though he has doubts about some provisions in a bill that provides incentives for the proposed Foxconn plant, local residents he has talked to are hoping to benefit from long-term full-time jobs at the company in or near his district in southeastern Wisconsin.

A special election was held to replace former Mayor John Dickert, who stepped down in July and took a job with the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence City Alliance.
