Latin jazz legend Palmieri coming to Milwaukee for Mexico, Puerto Rico relief effort

Legendary Latin jazz musician and composer Eddie Palmieri will bring his dazzling mix of high-powered salsa, Afro-Caribbean and "Afro-World" music to Milwaukee Oct. 28 for a benefit concert for Mexico and Puerto Rico.

All ticket proceeds from the 10 p.m. concert at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Woodland Dreams Ballroom will go toward American Red Cross relief efforts for earthquake-stricken Mexico City and hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, according to concert organizers.

UMOS, 12th District Ald. Jose G. Perez, publisher Victor Huyke of El Conquistador Latino Newspaper, along with local artists, elected officials, educators and community activists have mobilized to bring the 10-time Grammy Award-winning Palmieri to the city.

Acclaimed world-class virtuoso William Cepeda will sit in with Palmieri for the concert, which will feature a brief opening set by Milwaukee salsa vocalist, composer and bandleader Jesus “Joey” Burgos and musicians from local Latin music ensembles, according to a news release.
