Amenity Kit Review: Copa Airlines Business Class

Star Alliance member Copa Airlines provides a courtesy kit for business class passengers on flights exceeding 5.5 hours in length, and I bring you my critique in this installment of Amenity Kit Reviews. For a better description of each category and the 7-point scale for scoring, please review my introductory post.

A special thanks goes out to Seth at The Wandering Aramean for picking up this kit for me on his recent Panama City to Montevideo flight.

Bag/Container: The navy blue bag sports the Copa logo on the leather zipper tag and features a mesh front side and solid fabric back, though the interior rear lining is rubber to avoid liquid stains. It’s a slight step above a similar bag United used to offer in business class, but I’m not overly impressed and there’s only a slim chance I’d reuse it given its overall small to medium storage capacity. Score: 3.5 out of 7.0

Skin Care: Copa partnered with amenity kit provider WESSCO who supplied its “pure white tea†brand hand lotion, lip balm and moist towelette skin care items for this kit. While fairly generic, the lotion is decent and has a subtle Shea butter and olive scent. The lip balm is effective, and the face & hand towelette is of your standard variety. Score: 4.0 out of 7.0

Oral Care: The typical airline style, medium-bristle mini plastic toothbrush with head cover is provided, along with a tube of freshmint toothpaste. Nothing to write home about here, but they get the job done. Score: 4.0 out of 7.0

Comfort Items: Socks with rubber grippers on the base are of the usual single-use airline quality, as are the one-size-fits-all elastic eyeshades and fairly soft cylindrical earplugs. Again, nothing spectacular, but perfectly adequate. Score: 4.0 out of 7.0

Intangibles: “World class†doesn’t come to mind when I think of Copa, but I am impressed that they even offer an amenity kit for what I consider a standard domestic first class product. Their offering isn’t luxurious by any means, but I’ll give them credit here. Score: 5.0 out of 7.0

Total score & comments:

a yellow and black rectangular sign with numbers and black textThis business class kit is pretty basic, but it’s stocked with more than you would probably even use on what I consider to be medium-haul (5.5 to 7.5 hour) flights. Final score: 4.03 out of 7.00
