A Tucson man was killed in a shootout with Pima County deputies on Monday, officials said.

Luis David Flores, 34, and his mother were involved in a domestic dispute just before 7 a.m., according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Flores barricaded himself in the home when deputies arrived on the scene, in the 11000 block of West Massingale Road, officials said.

The Pima Regional SWAT team was called and negotiators tried for several hours to talk Flores into surrendering, officials said.

Pima County Deputy Cody Gress said Flores would not surrender and came out of the home with two guns in his hands about 2:30 p.m. SWAT ordered him to drop the weapons and shot him after he refused, Gress said.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating whether the guns were pointed at the officers, Gress said.

SWAT medical personnel tended to Flores' injuries until he was transported to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, where he was pronounced dead, Gress said.

Flores was charged with one count of threatening or intimidating with damage to property in May 2017, court records show. The case was moved to domestic-violence court, where he was supposed to have a hearing in March 2018.
