Khris Middleton's play-making, three-point shooting and defense are critical to the Bucks' success this season.

Bucks beat writer Matt Velazquez provides his analysis of the team's 15-man roster. The rankings were determined on the basis of each player's value to the team.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Everything the Bucks do revolves around Antetokounmpo. Their fate rests on his shoulders.

2. Khris Middleton

Now fully healthy, Middleton is a vital cog on both ends. His play-making, three-point shooting and defense are critical to Milwaukee's success.

3. Greg Monroe

Last season, Monroe became a certifiable force off the bench. He's among the favorites for Sixth Man of the Year, will anchor the second unit and will often be on the court to close out games.

4. Thon Maker

The second-year center is expected to take on a larger role. His shooting will help open the floor and his length, quickness and athleticism will be major assets on defense.

5. Jabari Parker

What Parker is able to add when he returns in February from a torn left ACL could determine whether the Bucks get home court in the first round of the playoffs.

6. Tony Snell

Snell's jobs are to play lock-down defense and knock down catch-and-shoot threes. He was great at both last season and will be counted on for a repeat performance.

7. Malcolm Brogdon

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year will step into a consistent, starting role and will need to show that last year's hot shooting and solid defense were signs of things to come.

8. Matthew Dellavedova

Dellavedova is well-liked as a teammate because he's a willing passer, sets screens and does little things well. This season he needs to add improved shooting to his list of contributions.

9. Jason Terry

In his 19th season, Terry will remain one of the leaders in the locker room. He'll also be asked to bring a spark of emotion — as well as strong shooting — off the bench.

10. Mirza Teletovic

Known as a three-point sharpshooter, Teletovic underwhelmed in his first season with the Bucks last year. If he can get his percentage back up near 40% the bench will be a more formidable unit, especially while the team waits for Parker's return.

11. D.J. Wilson

The first-round pick has the look of a Bucks player — long, athletic and able to stretch the floor with his shooting. Now he just has to prove his skills translate to the NBA level.

12. Rashad Vaughn

It's been a quiet first two seasons for Vaughn. This is the year he needs to prove he can make an impact at the NBA level. The Bucks need to get something out of him.

13. John Henson

Maker and Monroe have most of the minutes at center locked up. How much Henson can break through will depend on the value he can add while spelling the players in front of him.

14. Sterling Brown

The second-round pick got off to a slow start in summer league and during the preseason. How much he can help remains to be seen.

15. DeAndre Liggins

Claimed off waivers Monday, Liggins' role with the team is unclear.
