Nebraska farmer says soybean yields ‘were phenomenal’

Many Nebraska farmers are reporting better-than-expected soybean yields this fall.

Terry O’Neel, who farms near Friend in southeast Nebraska, tells Brownfield he’s been very pleased.

“Fortunately we have all of our beans out and the yields were phenomenal with the August rain,” O’Neel says. “We just started corn two days ago and the yields are very good there, too.”

O’Neel says frequent rains have made the harvest more challenging.

“It’s not very pretty. There’s quite a bit of mud in the fields, so we have to be very careful about where we go.”

With warmer and drier weather in the forecast, the pace of harvest activity in the western Corn Belt is expected to accelerate quickly this week.
