Goodell's wife defended husband with secret Twitter

This is becoming the year of secret Twitter accounts.

While Kevin Durant, Adam Silver and James Comey have all likely had secret social-media accounts discovered, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's wife, Jane Skinner Goodell, is the latest to join them.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Jane Goodell has spent the past three years defending her husband from negative press on Twitter. Using the now-deleted handle, @forargument, she has jumped into the mentions of various reporters from ESPN, NBC and the Wall Street Journal.

In response to an ESPN report, for example, about the chaos inside the NFL, Jane Goodell wrote, "Reads like press release from players' union. You can do better reporting. (D Smith sounds like D Trump with the inaccurate firebombs)."

She also tweeted in response to a newspaper clipping about former Senator Charles Goodell, Roger's father.

The Wall Street Journal figured out the account belonged to Jane Goodell based on her Twitter follows, which included accounts related to her children's schools.

When reached by the paper, she admitted that the account belonged to her.

"It was a REALLY silly thing to do and done out of frustration-and love. As a former media member, I'm always bothered when the coverage doesn't provide a complete and accurate picture of a story. I'm also a wife and a mom. I have always passionately defended the hard-working guy I love-and I always will. I just may not use Twitter to do so in the future!"

The account was taken down shortly after her statement.
