Mason Brang, Gavin Boruff named players of the week

Mason Brang edged out Xavier Malone in a tight vote for the PrepXtra offensive Player of the week, by a margin of 17 votes.

The South-Doyle quarterback earned 36 percent of the vote. He was responsible for six touchdowns in a 44-6 win over Halls. He threw for two and 230 yards, then ran for another four scores an 83 yards.

Malone received 34 percent of the vote. He led Fulton to a 40-7 win over Clinton with 225 passing yards and three touchdowns on 16-for-24 passing in a 40-7 win over Clinton.

Sweetwater's Gavin Boruff was voted defensive player of the week. He made nine tackles in a 28-14 win over Polk County, eight solo and two assists, and earned 40 percent of the vote.

Farrell Scott of South-Doyle was the runner-up with 25 percent for his 11 tackles in a 44-6 win over Halls.

Powell's Bryson Reed was third (18 percent) for his 12 tackles, including one for a loss and a sack, in a loss to West. Blake Rankin, of Grace Christian, was fourth (14 percent) for his eight tackles and 35-yard pick six in a win over CAK. William Romero, of Lenoir City, was fifth (three percent) for his eight tackles, including two for a loss and a sack, and fumble recovery in a win over Stone Memorial.

On offense, Brandon Burgess, of King's Academy, was third (12 percent) for his 242 passing yards and four touchdowns and 96 rushing yards for another two scores in a win over Chattanooga Grace.

Grainger's Jacob Bunch was fourth (nine percent) for his 164 rushing yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion in a win over Chuckey-Doak. Aaron Dykes, of Hardin Valley, was fifth (seven percent) for his 285 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries, in a loss to Science Hill.

Coaches can submit nominations for the PrepXtra Player of the Week poll before 10 p.m. Sunday. The poll will be posted on Monday and open until noon Thursday.
