MADISON - Wisconsin will be adding a big man to its 2018-'19 freshman basketball class.

Joe Hedstrom, a 6-foot-10, 200-pound center from Hopkins (Minn.) High School, has given UW an oral commitment.

Hedstrom, who plays for the Minnesota Comets AAU team, joins Whitnall senior guard Tyler Herro in the '18 class.

However, Hedstrom will be a walk-on for his first year and then go on scholarship for his remaining seasons.

That allows UW to have one more scholarship for the '18 class. UW is recruiting Taylor Currie, a 6-8, 200-pound forward from Clarkston, Mich. Currie originally committed to Michigan but recently de-committed.

Hedstrom had scholarship offers from Utah, Boise State and several mid-major schools.
