Rain brings mixed bag to Wisconsin farmers

Widespread rain slowed fieldwork but replenished Wisconsin soil moisture levels last week.

In its latest crop progress report, the USDA says dryness ahead of the rains pushed grain moisture levels down despite the state’s first killing frost.

Corn silage harvest is racing towards completion, and soybeans were coming off fields in many areas.

Winter wheat seeding and manure spreading are going strong as fields get cleared.

Overall progress for corn harvested for grain is 12 days behind average, and soybeans are one day off the average pace.
