Hurricane Nate is expected to bring heavy rain as the storm travels up the East Coast.

Hurricane Nate, a category 1 hurricane, is expected to hit the Gulf Coast late Saturday night, then travel up the East Coast. While it's expected to bring heavy rain to the South, it's only bringing a small amount of rainfall to central Pa.

Accuweather meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said Nate will bring about an inch to an inch and a half of rain to western and central Pennsylvania, with a little less rainfall hitting the eastern part of the state.

Nate is expected to reach the area Sunday night into Monday and move east by Monday evening. Pydynowski said there will be a few showers in store Saturday night and Sunday that are not necessarily associated with the hurricane.

"Across central Pa., it’s needed rain," Pydynowski explained.

According to a USA Today report, Hurricane Nate was located 345 miles south-southeast of the Mississippi River at 5 a.m. Saturday. The hurricane is expected to drop up to 12 inches of rain in some spots along the Gulf Coast, and reach maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

Central America has already felt the impact of Nate after the hurricane left at least 21 dead in Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica.
