Only two people correctly guessed my 100th SPG stay!

Yesterday we asked readers to guess which property I would spend my 100th SPG stay based on the following three clues.

  • The founder of this hotel brand perished on the Titanic
  • I redeemed 13200 SPG points per night for this property with the help of a coupon
  • The cost of the entire stay for the room I have confirmed into is 423,580.50 in the local currency

We are giving out two Delta Tumi amenity kits and were planning to randomly select two of the correct responders.

I was quite surprised by the results.  It seemed as though the majority of people got the first clue, which references John Jacob Astor IV, the founder of The St. Regis New York who perished on the Titanic.  From there most people went with the St. Regis Bali, with one commenter even suggesting the contest was too easy because one could just wait to see the consensus pick.

Unfortunately the consensus pick, receiving 90+% responses was incorrect.  The correct answer was The St. Regis Osaka.  I used the 35% off an award stay coupon which was this year’s Platinum gift for a 5 night stay at the St. Regis.  The category 6 property is generally 20,000 points per night but with the coupon and the fifth night free the cost per night comes down to 13200 SPG points.  I used five suite night awards to confirm into the Grand Deluxe Suite with a nightly rate of 84716 Yen or 423,580.50 Yen for the five night stay.
