Cruise Maven News: Azamara Adds Former Adonia to Their Two-Ship Fleet

Three’s certainly a charm with Azamara Pursuit.

Azamara Club Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, announced that they will acquire the former P&O Adonia. To be named Azamara Pursuit, it will be the third ship in the Azamara family.

Adonia has an interesting history. As the last of the eight “R” class ships built for defunct Renaissance Cruises, Carnival Corp resurrected the ship as the socially-conscious Fathom Cruises that featured voluntourism Caribbean cruises. When Fathom Cruises went out of business, P&O took Adonia into their fleet. So from Renaissance to Carnival Corp to RCCL, the 690-passenger Adonia has found a third home.

Azamara Pursuit will join sister ships Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest sometime in March 2018.

Being similar in size to Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest, Azamara Pursuit will also visit unique destinations that larger ships simply cannot reach. With a focus on destination immersion, all Azamara ships spend more time in ports, including overnights.

One of my favorite features of Azamara is their AzAmazing Evening event. Once per cruise (except on transatlantics and cruises less than seven nights) Azamara arranges a complimentary special evening event for guests.

On my Azamara Journey cruise, we were treated to an evening with Three Tenors from Rome at the Goldoni Opera House in Livorno, Italy. Azamara took over the entire beautifully restored Opera House just for our experience. When the buses returned us to the ship, we were greeted with champagne and more opera performed by an onboard entertainer.

Azamara Pursuit will be refurbished to be consistent with Azamara’s upscale décor. Azamara will release information about Azamara Pursuit deployment and itineraries in October.
