Boy, 7, among several people wounded in shootings Monday night
A 7-year-old boy was wounded Monday night in a shooting in the 3900 block of W Hampton Ave., police said.
The shooting occurred about 9:25 pm. The boy was being treated at a local hospital and was in stable condition, police said.
"The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear at this time; it does not appear that the child was the intended target of the shooting," a Police Department news release said.
Mayor Tom Barrett, however, said the boy was struck inside a residence.
"He was just a little kid lying on the couch," Barrett said, saying the incident highlights the need for violence prevention efforts.
Police say they are continuing to seek a suspect.
