Boy, 7, among several people wounded in shootings Monday night

A 7-year-old boy was wounded Monday night in a shooting in the 3900 block of W Hampton Ave., police said.

The shooting occurred about 9:25 pm. The boy was being treated at a local hospital and was in stable condition, police said.

"The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear at this time; it does not appear that the child was the intended target of the shooting," a Police Department news release said.

Mayor Tom Barrett, however, said the boy was struck inside a residence.

"He was just a little kid lying on the couch," Barrett said, saying the incident highlights the need for violence prevention efforts.

Police say they are continuing to seek a suspect.

Also Monday night, two people were wounded in a shooting about 10 p.m. in the 4300 block of N. 26th St.

One victim was a male, 24, and the other was a female, 23. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  

Police are continuing to investigate.

A man, 18, was wounded about 10 p.m. in the 4800 block of W Fond du Lac Ave. He also is being treated at a hospital, police said.

"The victim is not being forthright about the circumstances surrounding the shooting," police said. They are continuing to investigate.
