47 METERS DOWN (Lionsgate) Woman-in-oceanic-peril horror movie with Mandy Moore and Claire Holt as sisters whose dive to check out the Great Whites turns into a different adventure entirely. (PG-13; brief language, gore)

3 IDIOTAS (Lionsgate) Two college buddies set out to reunite a third with his college sweetheart. Mexican-made crossover comedy, with Martha Higareda, Vadhir Derbez, Christian Vázquez, Sebastián Zurita.  (PG-13; some rude humor, brief language) 

QUEEN OF THE DESERT (Shout! Factory) Nicole Kidman stars as Gertrude Bell, the remarkable woman who, as traveler, explorer and political attaché for Britain, helped shape the boundaries of the modern Middle East. With James Franco, Damian Lewis and Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence. Directed by Werner Herzog. (PG-13; some brief nudity, mature contents)

The beloved comic-book character finally gets her feature-film close-up in this big-budget action hit, with a cast including Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen and Ewen Bremner. THE BIG SICK A stand-up comic connects with a smart and funny grad student, but their relationship is cut short by his parents’ insistence he marry a Pakistani girl. But when she winds up with a mystery ailment that leads doctors to put her in a medically induced coma, he's forced to re-evaluate his priorities — and deal with her complicated parents. First-rate romantic comedy, based on the real-life relationship of actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon — who also wrote the screenplay — starring Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan as the couple, and Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as the woman's parents. (R; language)

CERTAIN WOMEN In Montana, the lives of different women — an under-pressure lawyer (Laura Dern), a woman determined to build her new home (Michelle Williams), and a law student (Kristen Stewart) who attracts the attention of a lonely ranch hand (Lily Gladstone) — intersect in Kelly Reichardt’s ensemble drama. ONE LAST HEIST A crook recruits a quartet of old thieves to rob an underground London safe-deposit facility. Based-on-a-true-story heist drama, with Matthew Goode, Joely Richardson. (R; language) 

CARTELS A Special Forces crew led by Steven Seagal hauls in a drug lord and must protect him when his old cartel comes hunting to stop him from talking. (R; strong violence, language, some drug use)

STARSHIP TROOPERS: TRAITOR OF MARS Casper Van Dien and the rest of the troopers are back in this computer-animated sequel to the old-school sci-fi series. (R; language some violence)  

BODY OF DECEIT Battling amnesia after a deadly car accident, a woman (Kristanna Loken) returns to Malta, where the accident took place, to get her life back. (R; sex, nudity, language, some drug use, violence) 

THE TREASURE A man gets more than he bargained for when he agrees to help his neighbor dig up treasure reportedly buried in his backyard before the communist takeover. Comedy by acclaimed Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu, in Romanian with English subtitles. (not rated)

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE Animated movie, based on the hugely popular children's books, about best buds (voiced by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch) who accidentally hypnotize their annoying principal (Ed Helms) into believing he's a superhero. (PG; pervasive mild rude humor) 

BEATRIZ AT DINNER Salma Hayek plays an immigrant woman whose successful health/wellness business in Los Angeles brings her into the orbit — and dining room — of a nouveau riche woman played by Connie Britton, just in time for a dinner party of some of her well-off friends, including a profits-at-any-price billionaire (John Lithgow) and a social climber (Chloe Sevigny). Class-conscious drama written and directed by Mike White and Miguel Arteta. (R; language, brief violence) 

I LOVE YOU BOTH Indie comedy about a twin brother and sister who find their lives getting complicated when they start dating the same guy. (not rated)

DRONE WARS A group of fighters must stop a drone invasion designed to wipe out mankind. (not rated; violence) 

FUN MOM DINNER Four women whose kids are in the same preschool class get together for a moms' night out, and things take a few dark turns. Comedy with Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, Adam Scott, Katie Aselton, Rob Huebel. (R; pervasive language, sexual material, drug use)  

THE HATRED A girl and her friends, baby-sitting for the weekend, discover the house is haunted by its evil past (including Nazis). (R; some violence, gore)
