Amway Coaches Poll: Georgia rises after beating Mississippi State; Alabama remains No. 1

With many of the top teams in the Amway Coaches Poll facing road tests in Week 4, Alabama passed with the best grade.

Georgia players celebrate with the fans after defeating Mississippi State.

As a result, the Crimson Tide strengthened their hold on the No. 1 ranking after their 59-0 demolition of Vanderbilt, receiving all but four of the 63 first-place votes cast this week.

The next five teams in the poll were all pushed to some extent but all were able to prevail and stayed put in the pecking order. Clemson retained the No. 2 spot with the remaining first-place votes this week after pulling away late from Boston College.

No. 3 Oklahoma got a tougher challenge than expected at winless Baylor, No. 4 Penn State escaped Iowa on a last-second TD pass, No. 5 Southern California used a second-half surge to win at California, and No. 6 Washington fell behind early but went on to upend previously unbeaten Colorado.
