Platteville takes down Lakeland behind combination of Blang and Johnson

UW-Platteville rode the combination of quarterback Tyler Blang and wide receiver Mark Johnson to a 56-22 victory over Lakeland on Saturday in Platteville.

Blang and Johnson hooked up for three touchdowns covering 17, 30 and 42 yards for the 13th-ranked Pioneers (3-0).

Johnson finished with nine receptions for 155 yards while Blang completed 14 of 22 passes for 230 yards and four scores.

Michael Whitley had a big night throwing the football for the Muskies (1-2) with 305 yards passing and three touchdowns.

UW-Stevens Point 41, Adrian (Mich.) 28: Matt Urmanski threw four touchdown passes after taking over for injured starter Ryan Swigart in the first quarter and the Pointers (3-0) rolled over the visiting Bulldogs (1-2).

Jerry Williams had a big afternoon for Point with four receptions for 123 yards and three touchdowns, while Zach Boseck led the team's ground attack with 132 yards in 27 carries.

UW-La Crosse 41, Carroll 6: Tarek Yaeggi threw for 298 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles (3-0) soared over the Pioneers (1-2) in La Crosse.

Trenten Smith gained 57 yards on the ground in 12 attempts with a pair of scores for La Crosse.

The Eagles racked up 408 yards of total offense on the afternoon while the Pioneers gained only 189 yards.

Knox 13, Ripon 6: The Red Hawks (0-3) had a pair of solid chances to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but they saw one drive end in an interception in the end zone and another on a failed fourth down conversion attempt at the 30-yard line of the host Prairie Fire (3-0).

Matt McCaffery threw a pair of touchdowns to Malik Hamilton covering 74 and 21 yards for Knox.

Cameron Mignone had three catches for 66 yards and a touchdown for Ripon.

St. Norbert 66, Grinnell 13: Drew Rhodes got the Green Knights (1-2) rolling with a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown to open the scoring against the host Pioneers (1-2).

Quarterback Jack Becker completed just 6 of 8 passes for 114 yards, but he threw four touchdowns, including three to Samuel Staehling.

Elijah Fort paced the rushing attack for St. Norbert with 153 yards in 19 carries with a touchdown, while Nate Nelson gained 109 yards in 20 carries and he hit paydirt twice.

Cornell 55, Beloit 36: Ben Sposito threw for 102 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 136 yards and a score, but it was to no avail as the Buccaneers (0-3) fell no to the Rams (2-1) in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Devan Clark was a force on the ground for Cornell as he rushed for 190 yards in 17 carries with four touchdowns.

Carthage 55, Augustana 14: Jamel Davis carried the Red Men (3-1, 1-1 CCIW) on his shoulders as he rushed for 177 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns against the Vikings (0-4, 0-2) in Rock Island, Ill.

Augustana lead 14-0 before Carthage scored 27-straight points to close out the second quarter and Davis scoring all three of his TDs.
