Linebacker Clay Matthews and the Packers will be battling the Bengals and the heat Sunday at Lambeau Field.

The tundra will not be frozen Sunday in Green Bay for the Packers-Bengals game at Lambeau Field. Rather it will be hot and sticky for the 3:25 p.m. kickoff.

The high temperature will be 88 degrees with 67% humidity, making it one of the warmest regular-season games played in Green Bay. In fact, it could be the hottest.

According to the Packers, the mercury reached 84 degrees at City Stadium on Oct. 6, 1963. Green Bay routed the Los Angeles Rams, 42-10. Also, the Packers oulasted the Falcons, 37-34, in overtime at Lambeau Field on Sept. 8, 2002, when it was 83 degrees.

The team says bringing in empty bottles to Lambeau Field will not be permitted, but concessions will offer free cups of water if you ask.

But no matter what the weather is, the Packers (1-1) have been successful in September. Since head coach Mike McCarthy took over in 2006, the Packers have a 25-14 (.641) record in that month. Green Bay’s 25 wins are tied for No. 1 in the NFC and tied for No. 4 in the NFL.

Even though temperatures will be toasty, the Packers are encouraging fans to bring jackets. The Salvation Army will collect winter coats for its annual Coats for Kids campaign, beginning at 11:25 a.m. in the parking lot.
