Essie Leathers x Rebecca Minkoff

I honestly didn’t think we’d see leather finish nail polishes ever again, so I was surprised to see them turn up from Essie in this Rebecca Minkoff collaboration (the designer is the Essie creative director). I like the leather finish effect – it’s a low sheen effect that almost perfectly replicates a leather patina. Remember the snake skin effects (Dior)? Gosh, that seems a long time ago now!

I also like the fact that they’re small sizes AND that they’re all named for handbags. Quite a lot to like really, one way and another.

I’ve tried a couple of the shades on my nails as well as doing nail wheel swatches – they dry really quickly (and obviously you can’t use a top coat because you’ll lose the effect) and I needed two coats for full coverage. Another thing to note is that if you then apply a nail oil after you’ve painted, you’ll make the effects more shiny than ‘leathery’. So in the wheel, from bottom to top: Back In The Saddle, Push The Envelope, Tote-ally In Love (my favourite), Bucket List, In Hot Purse-uit and Cross Body Heat. Back In the Saddle has a light glimmer effect as does Push The Envelope and In Hot Purse-uit.

They’re launching this month for £12.99 per set. Now that the jumpers are out, I’m really in the mood for the darker set.
