Farmers consider ag equipment for upcoming growing season

Cancelled field demonstrations because of rain didn’t stop farmers from checking out the latest ag equipment, research, and technology during the first day of the Farm Science Review.

Northern Ohio famer Kevin Ruth says he spent his time exploring tools for his farm.

One of those, he says, is the vertical tillage equipment.

“I’ve been using cover crops for the past couple of years and I’m running into a little bit of a problem,” he says. “I’m trying to get rid of, with vertical tillage, some of the trash.”

He tells Brownfield he is looking at equipment for the coming year and a draper head for his combine is on his “wish list.”

“I wish I could get one this year, the soybeans are really short,” he says. “The new style heads would be nice for that application.”

Ruth says he needs some dry weather for his crops to finish the season strong. He hopes to begin harvest in about a week and a half with soybeans and then start corn harvest shortly after.
