Taiwan trade team recognizes quality of Indiana crops

Indiana’s number one soybean customer visited the state this week as part of an agricultural trade goodwill mission.

Members of a Taiwanese trade team met with Hoosiers farmers and other industry leaders to continue to develop the existing relationships between the ag industries in both countries.

Central Indiana farmer Jim Douglas says 45 percent of Indiana soybeans and 35-40 percent of hogs leave the country.

“These trade relationships are very important to maintain a strong agriculture in the U.S. and without them we are producing way too much of these products,” he says.

Chin-Cheng Huang, deputy minister of the Council of Agriculture in Taiwan, says the country can always depend on the quality of Indiana corn and soybeans and they will continue to purchase them.

The trade team representing the largest buyers of soybeans and soybean products took part in a signing ceremony at the Indiana State House, visited a farm, and toured Bunge.

They also heard from Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch as well as representatives from Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.
