Updated: Holloman Airman accused of child exploitation

Alamogordo Police Department detectives arrested a 48-year-old Holloman Air Force Base 49th Medical Support Squadron commander for allegedly being in possession of sexually suggestive photographs of a child Friday, according to 12th Judicial District Court records.

According to court records, Keith Vollenweider is charged with one count of third-degree felony distribution of sexual exploitation of children under the age of 13 and one count of special fourth-degree felony possession of sexual exploitation of children under the age of 13.

Vollenweider is jailed at the Otero County Detention Center on a no-bond hold pending his appearance in court.

According to a Holloman Air Force Base 49th Wing Public Affairs press release, Vollenweider has been relieved of his command as the 49th Medical Support Squadron commander pending the outcome of the criminal investigation by the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

According to Holloman’s release, local authorities have jurisdiction.

The Air Force takes all criminal allegations seriously and will continue to work with local law enforcement authorities, according to Holloman’s release.

Twelfth Judicial District Attorney John P. Sugg said he has filed a motion for pretrial detention.

“At this point we’re going to reframe from commenting other than to say I can confirm the charges,” Sugg said. “We’ve filed a motion to detain him without bond pending trial.”

According to court records obtained by the Daily News, Alamogordo Police Department detectives with the assistance of the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigation arrested Vollenweider after executing a search warrant at Vollenweider’s home in the 400 block of San Simon Circle.

APD detectives and the New Mexico Attorney General’s office had an ongoing investigation of Vollenweider, according to records.

According to records, APD detectives seized several files believed to contain alleged child pornographic material.
