A Heart to Heart Chat: Up Close & Personal

In this video, I get up close and personal with you all. I sit down to have a heart to heart chat with you about what God has been speaking to me lately. #WomenLivingWell #GoodMorningGirls #Heartoheart #RestandRelease

Your response to the new Rest and Release Bible Study has been amazing!!!  I cannot wait to begin this study with you.

But first, I want to have a heart to heart chat with you.  I do not want this study to be about my personal life.  I want it to be about Jesus – drawing in deeper to Him, resting in Him and releasing whatever burdens you are carrying, to Him.

So, I made a pre-video.

It’s a bit more personal than the study will be because I want the Bible Study to apply to all of us, in all of our different walks of life.  But for today…I just want to open up to you about my own personal pain and struggles and how God has drawn me in deeper, as I’ve walked through some hard stuff.

{If you are reading this in an email or feed – click here to view the video}

I hope this video explained my heart behind the study.

This is a 4-week study.

The Study Guide includes a daily devotional, a reflection question, space to “SOAK” in your daily quiet time and space to take notes on the upcoming videos.

It is available on Amazon NOW
Both in Paperback and on Kindle

If you need a place to simply drop your burdens and sit down for a while and rest – you are in the right place.  I need that too and there is a community here ready to join you – you are not alone!

  5. It’s great to see you back, Courtney. We serve a wonderful and faithful God. We serve God for who He is and not for what will get from Him. God knows the plans He has for us. Plans for good and for disaster, to give us a future and a hope.

  6. Your marriage post actually saved mine a few years ago because they where so bionically based and I actually refer to those concepts a lot when I talk about marriage to other ladies.
As for this bible study it couldn’t have came at a better time cause I to am walking through the fire and needed something extra. So many past walking through fires I would find myself on this site reading your latest post and I can not wait to hear your wisdom. Thank you for sharing your heart and I am glad to see your smile again!

  7. I’ve been praying for you, Courtney. God may not have answered your prayer yet–yet being the key word. He doesn’t always give the answer we’d choose, and He doesn’t always do it on our timeline–but He always eventually answers. I think your healing may be part of that answer. You look wonderful, and I’m so glad you’ve been able to write again. Sending hugs! 🙂

  8. Courtney, so sorry to hear about the pain you have been going through. Thank you for sharing so sincerely, as always. The past few years have been difficult for me in different ways, too. Looking forward to learning with everyone here.

  9. I am going through separation in my 2nd marriage. I have health problems that occurred before we separated. I believe God is working on me and look forward to this study.
    Prayers and love!

    1. Did you watch the video? She’s not sharing details to protect her ex and her children. There’s no reason we need to know.

      And it’s “your”.

  10. Courtney,

You are just the best! So excited to see you back and doing this study with you. I’m just in awe of your strength – that only the Lord can provide. Having walked through the fire several years ago, your word of encouragement have brought healing all these years later. You are such a blessing!

  11. Courtney, the Lord is beautiful through you! I’ve been praying for your family since you first asked us to, and know that He is magnified through you as He continues to be your Fourth Man.

    With love,
    Jennifer

  12. My heart still breaks for you & your children but I’m glad you’ve experienced some healing. I got my copy of the study journal all ready to go. Just need a large candle ????I’m gonna get Autumn Wreath from Yankee Candle Co!!!

  13. Thank you Courtney for sharing with us! You look wonderful! I know this was really hard on you and your family. I’ve been there! It happened to me when my youngest son was two years old. He’s 22 today, and just graduated from The Citadel in May. I never re-married. When I think back on those days and how heart-broken I was, I saw how God carried us through day by day, week by week, year by year! We are never alone! We have a wonderful God who is always with us! God bless you! I do look forward to this study on “Rest and Release.”

  14. Thank You for sharing honestly which does give as you said major comfort and encouragement to all of us , no matter what we are going through. Thanks for the illustration of what Daniel and his friends went through in Daniel 3 and about the fourth man. Now I understand better. the true meaning of the fourth man being there. You are precious and beautiful – a true daughter of our King and Lord and Savior. Thank You Lord for being with us all.

  15. I am so excited to see you back on the blog! You are AMAZING and I praise God for healing you from your brokenness. Prayers continue for you on this journey. I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for you!

  16. I was looking for a Bible Study to do during the month of October. You see, we have been missionaries in Fiji for over 3o years. One year ago this past weekend, we were ready to return to Fiji after a brief furlough when my husband received a diagnosis of cancer. We went through the surgery at Christmas of 2016 and booked to return to Fiji in June 2017 only to learn in April that the cancer is now in his kidney. We have been through 5 rounds of chemo. Next week, he will have major surgery to remove his kidney. I will bring him home on October 1st. I already know that the month of October will be a quiet one as my husband recuperates and we wait on the Lord and try to get a sense of where our lives are going after this. We know that we can no longer physically live in Fiji. How do I release a lifetime of missionary service? The sudden loss of friends, country, missions is HUGE to me. Thank you in advance for sharing your journey with all of us.

    1. Dear Becky,

I’m so sorry to read about what you are facing today. I know the pain of sudden loss and the turn of events that are taking you down a road you don’t want to be on and never planned for. I am praying for your now and thank you for sharing this here. Stay strong – our God sees and knows your heartache. He loves you so very much.
      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  17. Looking forward to the study. So happy to see you back. I can’t imagine how hard those months were for you. Still praying for you, your children and all involved.

  18. Thank you for your openness and honesty Courtney! This video is so encouraging and I have felt so many of the same feelings when my husband passed 12 years ago. Grocery shopping was the hardest especially when I passed pumpkin pie..that was his fav. Also the feeling of disbelief that I am single. I wore my wedding ring awhile after. Then one day I was ready to take it off and put it away. It was a period of grieving. God is good and gives us that time. David wept. Jesus wept. After 12 years I never Thot id be single still. But God has kept me busy. My kids are now in college and I’m in grad school! I appreciate this father daughter time that he gave us. And that’s how I like to think of it. I never felt alone. My love for The King was taken to new heights and I actually thanked him for allowing me to grow thru this. I’m loving being single so much that family and friends can’t understand why I’m not with anyone yet. I actually feel so free. FREE and content.i try not to worry about finances and laugh at the days to come without being anxious. So looking forward to this study. Will be praying for lots of wisdom for you and our sisters thru it.

    1. Dear Lin,

I’m so sorry for the loss you have faced and everything you shared is so much of what I have felt as I’ve grieved – including the removal of the ring. So painful. 🙁 I love how you call being single – good father daughter time! Yes!!! That just blessed me so much – to think of it that way!

Thank you so much for sharing your pain here – it is a comfort to me.
      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  19. Courtney:
Through my mother’s debilitating illness and subsequent death the Mercy Me song “Even If” was my theme song and it goes right along with what you are saying. . .”Even if you don’t, my hope is You alone.” He is our hope and we will not bow down! Great to have your beautiful smile back! Prayers continue!

  20. Good morning Courtney I am so glad God had brought you through and He is getting ready to do great things in your life. We know problems are possibilities in disguise.
You are blessed and anointed by God and there is nothing Satan can do to you or your family.
    Looking forward to our studies
We need each other!! You are helping so many people who are also struggling.
    Walk with the King

  21. Courtney, I am currently walking in similar circumstances. My husband confessed to me 2 weeks ago of his infidelity. We told our kids yesterday that he is moving out, in another 2 weeks. I am taking time away from him to try and heal. It is so raw and indescribable, the pain and hurt and anger I have.
I ordered this study before he told me, I felt there was something coming. I know God is on my side, but it is so hard to feel that right now.
You give me hope, and you have always been so encouraging. I’m looking forward to starting this study.
    Anne

    1. Dear Anne – I am so sorry for what you are facing right now. I know your pain and you are walking through a dark valley right now – you are not alone. And I’m here to tell you – it will not last forever. God is with you and He will take good care of you – even on the days when it feels like everything is breaking and there feels like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. There is – Jesus is there! He loves you. Stay strong. I’m so glad you are here and joining this study with us.
      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  22. Wow!! Courtney, your soul is so beautiful! Such a faithful woman of God!! I’m working on bringing that “first love” feelings that I had for the Lord years ago! Lots of things I didn’t understand & felt were wrong in the church I attend, made me actually question God & become luke warm if I’m being honest with myself. My heart desires to rekindle that love, faithfulness, fear and joy for the Lord again & this is definitely a way to do it!! Thank you♡

  23. Courtney, so glad to see you’re feeling better. I have been praying for you so hard! God always walks with us through our hardships and it is through the difficult times that we grow the most. He is so proud of you for using your pain to help others. Thank you for sharing your truth with us. You are a warrior! Keep up the great work and know that we missed you!

  24. Courtney,
You have such a beautiful heart and I so admire that you realize and honor your ex-husband’s privacy and respect your children’s privacy and their own journey through this difficult time. My husband and I have remained married for 22 years but it has not been without many struggles and some of them are ongoing! God, for me, is at the center of it all, and I trust in Him to work on our hearts and pay heed to what He is saying. We also have homeschooled forever and our eldest (16) is now in a brick and mortar school while my youngest (11) is at home with me. So many changes!! I am so looking forward to October and doing this study. I bought the book the day it was released and I have told myself I am not starting until the group starts. My deepest goal this year is to focus solely on creating a secure homelife for my family and to be a blessing to those in my church as God see fit. You are truly and inspiration to me and I look forward to every video and blog post. Praying for you and yours.

  25. Thank you, Courtney, for returning to teach all of us out here. You are truly living your life and dealing with this heartbreak just as you have taught us for so many years. It has shown us that you are human and you are so able to relate to many, many people even more now.
The 4th man explanation and application is awesome to think about. I will keep praying for you and it is SO good to see and hear you again.

  26. You are so beautiful, inside and out. If you ever get a chance, I wanna see a video on how you style your hair! It looks great!
Thank you for standing on God’s Word. Your storm sent shock waves through my world. Your followers stand with you on God’s Word, and we are still praying for you and your children.
    Thank you so much!

  27. What a beautiful testimony, Courtney! You are such an inspiration to me and so many other women. I am thankful that your heart still allows God to work through you! I love your studies and am looking forward to Reat & Release! I have invited a friend to join me. ❤️

  28. Thank you so much for your transparency and heart. I am so sorry you are going through this; but I know, in God’s economy, He will bring beauty for ashes. I am looking forward to this study and am so grateful for you!

  29. This study popping into my email today is so incredibly timely, as I have also wrestled with the restoration of my family, on many fronts. I know it is not time, yet, and I also know I am not very patient. I’ve been met with “not now, daughter; later”, “wait”, and just today…”abide in me”. It has been a long, difficult road. We were targeted by Satan, before we were even believers, and our decisions took us on differing pathways. I know my God will work all things for my good!

  30. Hi Courtney,
Thank you for sharing what you have gone through and where you are now. It’s so encouraging. I too am recently divorced….3 weeks out. This past weekend my ex told me that he is already seeing someone else. It broke me all over again. The divorce settling was such a hard 9 months…I feel I am just coming out of a tar pit. To hear this news was like someone threw me back in and I can’t move. I am earnestly searching and praying for healing. I know it takes time, it’s grieving. I too look up and say “ok God, I have been a stay at home mom for 15 years….what now do I do” It’s scary and raw. You said you read alot of books and listened to podcasts and watched you tube video’s. Would you mind sharing those things that helped you in the healing process. I have a few resources but the more I can get the better. I am very weary but I know God has me and my daughter (she is 13) I know that he will create beauty from these ashes. It’s just hard walking it out. I so respect how you have conducted yourself through this journey. Thank you again! Many blessings on your future.

  31. Oh my goodness!! God has done a miracle in your life!! To be able to exude joy and peace as you speak to us is of Hos supernatural healing!
I cannot wait for this study! I, too, am walking through a deep valley and want to renew my life through Him!
    God bless you!

  32. Hi Courtney, just wanted to thank God for you! You have gone through a fiery furnace and yet you have chosen to remain faithful to God’s calling upon your life and to continue to proclaim His truth. Pray that God continues to strengthen and fortify you by His Spirit and use you even more than ever imagined, amen. James 1:12.

  33. I’m so glad to hear from you. Taking the summer off to be with God, and your family must have been so refreshing. I’m so happy for you, and I cannot wait to do the Rest and Release bible study! I hope you know so many women admire you for all you do, and your testimony. You have been so strong, and stuck close to God in the hardest times. May God continue to bless you, the womenlivingwell page, and may He use the Holy Spirit to work through for others. Counting down to Oct. 1st!!

  34. Dear Courtney,
I have followed your vlogs for a number of years now. Thank you for your strong faith. You are an example to all of us who are going through trials. This is the 3rd time today I have heard that we are nvere alone. I know that the Holy Spirit promptings to remind me of this, this time through you.
Thank you for your testimony and your protection of you family. I will pray for you and your family and remember, God has plans to prosper you, not harm you.
    Lynette

  35. The perfect place for the Heart to Heart Chat!!!! I want to come to your home with Tea and Homemade Cookies – – Your room says “Home Sweet Home”!! – a Safe Haven – Cozy and Warm. It’s So Great to see you again and learn of your healing. Thank You for another Very Meaningful Video – I always enjoy them. More Love and More Blessings to You and Your Beautiful Family!

  36. I totally get the feeling of being 19 and single again! It was so odd for me in 2016 as I ordered transcripts and applied to university all over again, this time in my late 30’s. In addition to getting more education for work, I’m also reading parenting books, watching videos on dating and marriage, going through Bible studies on forgiveness and recovery… This time of separation from my ex-husband has actually been one of healing and growth, though it’s also had frustration at the slow pace of the legal process and the fact that there’s apparently been no wake-up call for him as there was for me with the way that we were living.

I’m so glad that you’re back on the blog, Courtney, and that you did feel the need to write again. I look forward to the future here! 🙂

  37. Hi Courtney,
It’s so wonderful to hear from you and for you to take the time to update everyone on your current situation. You look amazing and it’s so good to hear you say how you prayed the Lord would do… but even if He doesn’t, You would not stop trusting Him! What a testimony that is, I know God is using you even in this!
Thank you, Courtney and can’t wait to get started!
Blessings to you and your family????????

  38. Great to see you back Courtney, Very powerful! This is where the rubber meets the road- real Christianity. I am going thru a fiery trial at the moment that I’d never have dreamed of & have questioned God why our family Lord, but what satan intends to harm us with God intends for our good. And like you say we have to make a pact together with those we love that whatever happens, whatever the outcome we will stand strong in our Lord Jesus & we will never give up on Him. It’s good we can all bear one another’s burdens & hold each other in prayer.

    1. Hi Courtney, my name’s Sarah and I’m Emma’s little daughter and I love Jesus like you and I think you look pretty with brown hair and I watched your new video today with my mom.

  39. Thanks for being so open about your trials. I am in this same place. 30 years of marriage.. But God has been good to me..

  40. Not sure if you had shared prior to this week, but somehow I missed that all of that was happening in your life. I am choked up and mourning your loss with you! I lost my own husband to a heart attack suddenly almost 3 years ago just 2 short weeks before our 25th anniversary. Loss is loss and I am so happy to hear that you are recovering in Christ. There is no other way! Just like the story in the book of Daniel, I believe that the fire is getting turned up hotter and hotter everywhere right now. It’s those who stay in the rest of God who will come out without their clothes smelling like smoke. Be blessed in this season and I will be praying for you and the kids! xo

  41. Courtney, What a wonderful message. You are much younger than me but I have been with you a long time. My life has also been touched by divorce and I have had to regroup more than once. Thank you so much for all you do for us and for having such a honest and heartfelt way of relating. God can use this for good! I just ordered the study guide and looking forward to getting back to looking for that “New Normal” together! God Bless!

  42. Dear Courtney,
It really is a blessing to hear from you, you look wonderful.
You are such an encouragement to us all, my Daughters and I are really looking forward to this next Bible study.
    Praying for you.
Lots of love and God bless,

  43. Daughter Courtney of the most High King,

Come what has, and still to come, don’t let the devil steal your JOY. May your strength to move forward be renewed day by day. You are covered in HIS love…… that’s all that matters now. Thank you for being open and truthful and for your insights. You remain an inspiration to thousands of us women out there all over the world. Thank you for walking in the path HE lays before you. I look forward to the new study coming next week.
    Much love, Sabina

  44. Courtney! I have missed you so much. You are such an inspiration to me, I have followed you for years, learning how to walk with the King. I am so sorry for the heartache you have been going though and you have been in my prayers. I’m so thankful God has brought you back to us! I will continue to lift you up in prayer and praying this new season in your life is better then ever! You are soooooo loved. Keep up the inspiring work you do 🙂

  45. Dearest Courtney,

Thank you so much for continuing the work you do. I am continually blessed by your posts and your studies. I, too have experienced the crumbling of my marriage. We separated over 2 years ago and prayed for total restoration but have come to terms that is not going to happen. I know God is still in control and I am learning to trust in him more each day. “For I know the plans he has made for me…”

I can’t wait for the new study. I’m praying for you and your family!????

    Stephanie V.

    1. Oh Stephanie – my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry for what you are facing right now and want you to know I am saying a prayer for you tonight.

Stay strong. Jesus loves you and is with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is faithful!

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  46. We do not understand all the ways that God will lead us and what He allows us to go through. I have been through a divorce and God was incredibly faithful to me. I grew a relationship deeper with Him than I could have ever imagined. There is pain and sadness but He gives us beauty for ashes. I didn’t understand things at the time and some of it I truly never will but I know He gives us choice and we cannot force others into relationship with Him or us.

Job 42:12, So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning…

Prayers for you as God fills your arms and gives you beauty and blessings!

He has been faithful to me and I have more now than I could have ever dreamed! HE is the best story writer! Father write your story on our hearts!

  47. Courtney, I finally figured out how to add a comment. Oh my.
Anyway, I have been praying for you and your family. I want you to know how very thankful I am for your teaching through these many, many years. I still see how vibrant the Spirit is in you! I praise God that you are using the gifts he has given you. I appreciate the time you took off to reflect on Him and His word and truth. I look forward to going through Rest and Release with you and the other women!

  48. Thank you for sharing your struggles. My divorce was finalized today. I’m working every day to get to the point of letting go of the hope that God chooses to reconcile my marriage. I so appreciate knowing that someone else understands! I will pray for you and your family ❤️

    1. Oh Crystal,

I’m so sorry for the pain you are facing right now. I understand. Each day you will get a little stronger. Just keep doing the next right thing and it’s okay to cry and grieve. The Lord is with you and He loves you.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  49. I am so happy that you are back – your new study sounds amazing! I am wondering what the biblical grounds for divorce are in your faith. I am a Catholic, and not even adultry or desertion will pass muster with our faith. It seems so difficult sometimes to think that we have the same God and the same bible, yet the clerical powers that be interpret the word in such fundamentally different ways. Looking forward to October 1st!

    Kay Curran

      1. Thank you! You are a true blessing to all who know you.

        Kay-

PS your home looks cozy and charming, and your new hair & style is fabulous!

    1. Hi Stacy,

I will be posting the verses and reflection questions every week here on the blog but this Study Guide is different from my journals as it has daily devotions inside. So I recommend the study guide to go with the study.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  50. Thank you for posting this. I am just a few steps behind you in this journey, after 21 years of marriage, and I’m so glad to hear that it gets better. Thank you for being open and sharing.

    1. I’m so sorry for what you are going through right now Diana – I am saying a prayer for you tonight. Jesus loves you and He is with you.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  51. Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to joining you in October. God’s way of restoring us my be different from our idea of what we need. God bless you and your family.

    It was nice meeting you!

  52. You are such a light in this world Courtney! I’ve loved gmg and wlw for years now. This ministry has helped me through so many of life’s stages. Good an bad.
God is good… all of the time. I know He is doing a good work in you and is making something beautiful out of all this. Keep letting your light shine. You are beautiful.
    Can’t wait for this study!

  53. Hi Courtney, I wanted to thank you. Around the time you were finalizing your divorce, my husband shared his heart with me (the good, the bad and the ugly). There was infidelity on his part and he no longer wanted to be married to me. I say thank you because in the midst of my overwhelming pain and heartache and feeling of hopelessness, I feel God led me to your blog….so I could find my way back to HIM through studying His word. Your blog helped me dig deeper into the word of God and because of that I feel so much closer to God. And with God I feel so much stronger. And even in the midst of so much pain and sadness, God has grown me in so many different ways. Through the rough days, rough moments, tears and pain, He has never left my side. Thank you for showing me how to choose God (how to walk with the King). I will always be grateful. And thanks for your video. I REALLY appreciate your words of encouragement to keep clinging to God. It gives me hope that even though my prayers for restoration will not be answered the way I want, God will still be with me and it will be okay. He promised and He NEVER has broken any promise. Thank YOU God!

I am so grateful I will be able to do this study with you and all the ladies!!!!! I know it’s going to be transforming!!!!!!! So excited!!!!

  54. Hi Courtney,
A friend shared this Bible Study with me. Seven months ago I filed for divorce from my husband of 20 years, this came after several years of personal counseling with our pastor’s wife and with finally reaching the conclusion that if I did not separate from my mentally ill spouse his illness would drag our entire family under. I believe that God is restoring our entire family though not by restoring the marriage. He is working to restore and transform both my husband and I, in our sin and brokenness, to be more like Jesus. However, due to my husband’s illness I will not be able to see him mentally whole until we reach eternity. I will be praying for you as you do this study. Through this process, God has increased my faith by a thousand times, and I have such a greater understanding and heart for broken families like mine. I’ve seen miracles in my life like never before. I recently returned to school teaching after a 10 year break of homeschooling. I know what it feels like to try to do your work while you are healing from a broken heart. I’m going to be praying for you in October.

  55. Courtney,
Thank you for sharing and being willing to let others see the emotion, to admit the rawness of your story. My husband and I divorced 12 years ago. It was painful and my youngest daughter and I are still estranged as a result. That is still hard. I had no idea what path God was opening up for me. Now, I’m remarried to an amazing man. He also went through a divorce 18 years ago, before coming to know Christ. Now he has gone to seminary, is ordained, and together we head up a youth ministry. I am also attending seminary, training to be a spiritual director. God’s plans for us are always so much more than we could ever imagine. The summer Tom and I married, we read Joel and realized God was telling us that He would restore to us all that the locusts had eaten in our lives. He has – and more. He will do the same for you as you continue to trust and walk with Him.

  56. This will be my very first bible study with you. I am looking forward to it! Thank you for your honesty and willingness to share your heart.

  57. It is so good to have you back. ???? Your studies have been such a great blessing and have helped me stay on track. I am very grateful for your willingness to serve the King using the gifts He has poured out on you. What Satan intends for evil, God will use for good. Many blessings and continued prayer for healing and restoration.

  58. I am so excited to see how well you are remaining faithful to the Lord and what is right. I was very anger a few times and I hear the pain in your voice but I know just as David mourned the loss of Saul you are able to remain respectful to your family. I could not imagine a more inspiring heart chat where you actually did not blaze over the pain so someone could receive application to the pain of divorce but also remain so faithful to the dignity the situation deserves. I do home we get to see the Courtney that overcame a hardship and continue this journey. I love the Bible because it does give so much detail in peoples lives for application. Some times we need to see what Right looks like because the Devil has many wiles. Thank you….

  59. I had started the Bible Readings for this study and just got my book today. Reading the introduction, my heart did a somersault. Being a daughter of a Mom who has been through something similar, it is such a hard place to be in,for you and your family, and just all the pain and things that you go through, for some reason I couldn’t fully read past that point in the book. My heart was burdened and I wanted to see if you had posted anything or if I could pray for you in any certain way. Then I saw this blog and watched the video.

Thank you for allowing God to use you in this storm. That you are willing to surrender to Him. That you know He does have your future in His hands and it going to do great things, no matter what the outcome. That your strength really comes from the Lord and you are standing firm. I pray God blesses your willingness and obedience.

You will be in my prayers and, again, thank you. Funny how things like this touch our hearts so deeply, just sharing our struggle and how are strength is truly from Him. Something that people in the world don’t truly get. God is the author and finisher of our faith. He knows all He wants to do and produce in us.

I am looking forward to really getting close to the Lord through this study. My husband thinks its weird that I am lighting a candle all the time, but it is refreshing to just light it and relax and say, “Okay, God. Open my heart. Speak through your word.”

Have a great week, lady! Spiritual hugs to you and your family.
