Corn growers, ethanol producers meet Wisconsin lawmakers

Wisconsin State Capitol

Wisconsin’s corn growers and ethanol producers spent Wednesday at Wisconsin’s State Capitol.

Nicole Wagner with the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association tells Brownfield it was a chance to reach out and build relationships with lawmakers, and to help educate them about corn and corn products.  “We had a few of our officials that didn’t realize that when a grower delivers his corn, every bit of that kernel is used at the ethanol plant because not only are they producing ethanol, they’re producing corn oil, DDG’s, and some of them even have a high-protein seed that they’re creating from that corn.”

Wagner says this first Corn Day at the Capitol was successful.  “This is our first annual.  We had about forty people in attendance between the two groups and we just hope to build on it next year.  Next year, in fact, we may have a few representatives from the Wisconsin Agribusiness Association invited to join us as well.”

Wagner says the timing of the event worked out well, as the State Assembly was caucusing before the state budget vote late that night, and she says many lawmakers were able to meet with producers.
