Brewers outfielder Brett Phillips is pumped up after throwing out the Pirates' David Freese in the fourth inning.

Brett Phillips showed on Wednesday night that he is more than a guy with a goofy laugh.

Phillips displayed his cannon of an arm by throwing out the Pittsburgh Pirates' David Freese, who was trying to tag up from third base on a fly ball hit to the centerfielder in the fourth inning.

Statcast, Major League Baseball's analytic tool, measured Phillips' throw at 104 mph, the hardest throw recorded this season.

It was also the second-hardest outfield assist since Statcast began tracking on-field data in 2015. The Yankees' Aaron Hicks had a 105.5-mph bomb last season.

Phillips' throwing ability was among the skills the Brewers touted when they got the outfielder in the 2015 trade that sent Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez to the Houston Astros.

Phillips thinks he has more in his right arm:

Phillips was referring to the scale used by baseball scouts to grade prospects. He graded out as a 70.

Maybe Phillips needs a shot at filling the void in the pitching rotation left by the injured Jimmy Nelson.
