Could the Vols make an unexpected return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, site of the team's thrilling victory over Georgia Tech in the season opening game?

It's possible. Officials are discussing moving the game to Atlanta, due to Hurricane Irma, according to a report by GoVols247.

Officials want to make a decision on the game by Tuesday, GoVols247 reported. After last season's Florida-LSU postponement, a new rule allows SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to make the final call on weather-related schedule changes, the site noted.

Projected path of Hurricane Irma as on Sunday morning, Sept. 10, 2017.

MLS soccer team Atlanta United is currently scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The hurricane hit Florida as a Category 4 hurricane Sunday. It is expected to be downgraded to a Category 1 or 2 by the time it storms through Gainesville on Monday.

The Vols and Gators are scheduled to play their annual rivalry game on Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CT). at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The game is scheduled to be broadcast nationally on CBS.

It's one of three conference games scheduled on Sept. 16. Kentucky faces South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., and Louisiana State faces Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.

The rest of the SEC teams play non-conference opponents on Sept. 16 includes Colorado State at Alabama, Mercer at Auburn, Samford at Georgia, Ole Miss at California, Purdue at Missouri, La.-Lafayette at Texas A&M and Kansas State  at Vanderbilt.

The Vols are 2-0 after beating Georgia Tech 42-41 on Labor Day and  beating Indiana State 42-7 on Saturday.
