CHAMBERSBURG - Two Maryland men will be in Franklin County court on Monday for trial over the robbery and murder of a Guilford Township man.

Tarence Lamar Reed, 31, and Antoine Alphonzo Hunter, 26, both of Hagerstown, are each charged with second-degree murder for the death of Deval Green. Reed is also charged with first-degree murder.

Both men are also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary, plus robbery and burglary charges.

The two were among a group of six that were present on Dec. 14, 2015 outside Green's home on Quarry Road, Guilford Township. Other members of the group have claimed that Hunter and Reed were responsible for shooting Green during a robbery.

The others, Tyree Swindell, 25, Damien Calloway, 22, Gerald Scarlett Jr., 23, and Cheyenne Kline-Branche, 23, have taken pleas in the case, according to online court documents.

The documents reflect that there has been an agreement for cooperation for those four, but does not state what the agreement is, or to what each person is pleading. Sentencing for all four is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Since the original filings of the documents in the case, the members of the group have been pointing fingers at each other for who was responsible for the shooting.

Swindell, Kline-Branch, Scarlett and Calloway are from the Chambersburg area, and only knew Hunter and Reed by nicknames, according to court documents. The group met the men near Green's Quarry Road home, and some went into the house to commit a robbery while others stayed behind.

A .40-caliber handgun used in the incident was owned by Kline-Branche but she claimed she gave it to Scarlett. Scarlett told police he gave it to one of the Reed or Hunter, under the pretense that no one was going to be shot or killed, according to court documents.

Calloway was the only person to tell police what happened near the home, according to court documents. He said Green came out of the house without any prompting, but was shot by Hunter or Reed. Still alive, Green stood up as one of the men stood over him with a shotgun, Calloway added.

The two fought, and Calloway said one of the men came out of the residence and they all began running. Moments later he heard two more shots coming from the house, according to court documents.

The group did steal several items, including a backpack with an estimated $300 in cash inside, plus an Xbox.

Every member of the group has been held at Franklin County Jail while awaiting trial, after being denied bail in December 2015.

The trial is scheduled to go the full week.
