Ex-Vols coach Lane Kiffin is cheering for Tennessee tonight vs Georgia Tech

Years after his quick exit from the Volunteer State, Lane Kiffin still feels some ties to his old job.

Early in Tennessee's game against Georgia Tech on Monday, Kiffin was asked by a fan on Twitter where he was. The former Volunteers coach responded with a simple #govols.

He followed this up with another tweet that said "#feelurpaintripleoption" referring to the triple option offense by Georgia Tech that the Vols struggled with stopping.

Kiffin would know all about issues with triple-option offenses after his 42-19 loss to Navy in his debut with Florida Atlantic, his first game as a head coach since being ousted at Southern Cal.

Kiffin was the coach at UT for the 2009 season and left pretty much immediately after the season to take his "dream job" at USC, only to be ousted in 2013.

Kiffin's exit caused a lot of anger among Vols fans and students, who gathered on campus the night he announced he was leaving and set a mattress on fire.

Since then, his name has become almost a curse word with the UT faithful.

Kiffin spent the last three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at SEC rival Alabama for coach Nick Saban, winning a national championship in 2015.
