For the entire first half, it looked like the Vols were going to start their season 0-1 for the first time since 2008. But as heavy as Georgia Tech was hitting, they couldn't deliver a knockout blow, and Tennessee prevailed in double overtime.

FINAL

Tech was able to find their way into the end zone, then decided to end the game once and for all with a 2-point conversion. However, it didn't go the way the drew it up and the Vols would snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and start their season with a win.

OVERTIME

Previously...

John Kelly runs in his fourth touchdown of the night and the Vols have the lead for the first time.

-And the Vols answer. On to double overtime.

-The Yellow Jackets take advantage of their possession and score on their drive.

FOURTH QUARTER

-Wow. The Vols block the field goal to stay alive. It was a pretty bad kick to begin with, but to overtime we go.

-Three seconds left and Tech calls a timeout. A field goal is coming.

-40 seconds left in the game, and the Yellow Jackets are inching closer to filed goal range.

-John Kelly makes this a a tie game.

-Callaway with another huge play. He catches for 40 yards.

-Just when it looked like J.J. Green was going to score — or at least put Tech in a good position to score — Rashaan Gaulden forced a fumble and the Vols recovered.

-Marquez Callaway is keeping the hopes and dreams of Vols fans alive. Dormady hit Callaway for a 50-yard gain.

-Another touchdown for the Yellow Jackets. QB TaQuon Marshall hit Qua Searcy for a 42-yard gain and put Georgia Tech in prime scoring position. On the next play, Marshall ran the ball in for the score.

THIRD QUARTER

-Marquez Callaway catches his first touch down of the season and makes it a one-possession game for the Volunteers.

-The Vols get a gift with a shanked Georgia Tech field goal andtheir deficit stays at two touchdowns.

-And there it is. The Yellow Jackets convert and it's now 21-7 in Georgia Tech's favor.

-Georgia Tech continues their clinical breakdown of the Vols' defense and are now threatening for another touchdown.

The Vols will start (and end) the second half without Jauan Jennings.

SECOND QUARTER

-All of those runs and time of possession pay off for Georgia Tech. KirVonte Benson gives the lead back to the Yellow Jackets.

-Georgia Tech ran 15-straight times in a 75-yard push to the end zone.

-Georgia Tech is plodding its way down the field this drive. They aren't huge gains, but enough to keep getting first downs and inching ever closer to the end zone.

-John Kelly gets the Vols on the board after the best and most efficient Tennessee drive of the game.

-The Vols force a fumble while Georgia Tech is runing the ball, and Daniel Bituli recovered.

Yet another 3-and-out for the Vols, wasting a great return by Barry. Nobody is able to hold on to Dormady's passes right now, even though a few have been right on the numbers.

FIRST QUARTER

-The quarter ends with a big gain from Evan Barry off the kick return.

-Georgia Tech is on the board first. TaQuon Marshall with the touchdown. Extra point is good and Georgia Tech leads 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

-Immediately after Darrell Taylor pressured Georgia Tech for a huge loss, the Yellow Jackets hit wide receiver Ricky Jeune for a gain that puts them in scoring position.

-So far neither team is advancing the ball. While UT haven't been able to gain much, they are doing a good job at making sure the same is true for the Yellow Jackets. It's a defensive game seven minutes in.

-The Vols can't get much going on their first drive, going three and out to start the game. Yellow Jackets' linebacker Brant Mitchell, a Knoxville native and lifelong UT fan broke up a pass to stop the Vols from advancing.
